Shawn Corey Carter, popularly known as Jay-Z is an American rapper, songwriter, record executive, businessman, lyricist, music producer, and media proprietor. He is mostly regarded as one of the most influential hip-hop artists in musical history and is also well known for being the CEO of Def Jam Records who introduced and discovered major artists like Rihanna and Rick Ross. He began his career by first releasing records in the late 1980s. His debut set, “Reasonable Doubt”, reached the US number 23 in 1994. Later, his works include In My Lifetime, Vol. 1, 1997, and released Vol. 2, Hard Knock Life, 1998, and released Vol. 3, The Life and Times of Shawn Carter, 1999; established Rocawear clothing company, 1999, released The Dynasty: Roc la Familia, 2000, released The Blueprint, 2001, and The Blueprint 2, The Gift … the Curse, 2002, opened the 40/40 club in New York City, 2003, released The Blueprint 2.1, 2003, released The Black Album, 2003, retired from rap to focus on business ventures, 2004, and released in theaters feature film Fade to Black, 2004.
